KFC Colonel Scholars $5,000/year scholarship: GPA has to be 2.75 or greater. Have to enroll in a SC public college or university, pursuing a Bachelor's Degree. Website is www.kfcscholars.org.

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship for $2,000 - they're looking for seniors who have ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, and who have respect for self, family, and community. Deadline is December 15, 2009. Website is www.axa-achievement.com.

RMHC Scholar (Ronald McDonald House Community Scholar) - amount of scholarship varies, minimum of $1000. Website is www.rmhc.org, go to the What We Can Do tab and then click on RHMC scholarships. You need a personal statement of community involvement and a personal reference.

Byrnes Scholarships - Applicants must have financial need, excellent academic record, and must also have lost one or both of their parents. Applicants must plan to pursue a bachelor's degree. Scholarships cannot be used at technical schools or for associate degrees.

Charleston Women in International Trade Scholarships - Applicants must be pursuing degree in international business or related field.

Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarships - SC residents working on degree in agriculture or related major. Awarded to college sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Farm Bureau State Fair Scholarships - For students under age of 20 with livestock competing at the fair.

Farm Bureau Youth Ambassador Scholarship - Must be age 16-21 and reside in the home of a bureau member.

SC Medical Association Foundation - Designed for medical students, this program offers a wide range of scholarships awarded for financial need and merit.

SC Wildlife Federation - Go to this website and type "scholarships" in the search bar.

finaid.org - Great site that has information about loans, scholarships, military aid, and what you want to know about college financial aid.

Scholarships: For Students in grades 10-12!
Each year we have encouraged students to use FASTWEB for scholarship assistance www.fastweb.com. Each student logs on to the website and creates a profile including age, grades, GPA, SAT etc. Then Fastweb creates a list of scholarships and contests for scholarship money for the students. Each time a new scholarship that your son/daughter could qualify for occurs, an email is sent. Numerous contests EXIST for scholarship money based on volunteering, creating commercials, and essays. Every Student in grades 10-12 should use this site.

Life, Palmetto Fellows, and other scholarships
Many colleges link other scholarships to the Life and Palmetto Fellows Scholarships, so ask when you contact their financial aid offices.

Students who qualify for the Life Scholarship also qualify for a full-tuition scholarship at Spartanburg Methodist College. SMC is the only two-year college in SC. Students attending SMC transfer to complete their last two years of school.

Students who earn the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship qualify for a full tuition scholarship at North Greenville College.

The SAT combines the highest critical reading and highest math score to get the score for the Life Scholarship. The Life Scholarship is a $20,000.00 scholarship (over 4 years) for students in SOUTH CAROLINA schools. The required SAT score is 1100. Students may also wish to consider taking the ACT. This test is also used for the Life Scholarship. Statistically, girls and those who are more verbal score better on the ACT.

College Financial Aid Links

LIFE Scholarships - Merit scholarship for full-time students: $4,700 a year if you attend SC four-year college, up to cost-of-tuition if you attend two-year college. No application ... automatic award. Know that freshman eligibility requirements increase each year, so be sure to stay on top of your grades.

Palmetto Fellows Scholarships - Merit scholarship for students who attend SC four-year college full-time: $6,700 a year. Requires 1200+ SAT or 27+ ACT.

SC HOPE Scholarships - Merit scholarship for entering freshmen who attend SC four-year college full-time and who do not qualify for LIFE or Palmetto Fellows Scholarships: $2,650 for one year only. No application is needed; it is automatically awarded.

Need-Based Grants - $2,500 a year for full-time students, $1,250 for part-time. Applicants must complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Lottery Tuition Assistance Program - Up to $996 a term for full-time, $83 per credit hour for part-time students who attend SC two-year college. Applicants must not be a recipient of HOPE, LIFE or Palmetto Fellows Scholarships and need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

scstudentloan.org - This private, non-profit organization makes many types of college loans to South Carolina students and their parents.

South Carolina Teacher Loans - For education majors. Up to $2,500 a year for freshmen and sophomores, $5,000 for juniors and seniors. The debt from these loans can be canceled by teaching in South Carolina public schools in critical geographic and subject matter areas.
