Junior-Senior Banquet - Salute to "Phantom of the Opera"

The Junior class sponsored this year's banquet, and it was a success on all fronts. The juniors, with the supervision and direction of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Smith, transformed the Hartsville Country Club into a scene from the Broadway musical, "Phantom of the Opera." The staging area was filled with memorabilia from the play, and each table had a centerpiece reminsicent of the famed half-mask worn by the Phantom of the Opera. The evening's entertainment was provided by Garrett Graham and Heather Atkinson, who enthralled the crowd with selections from the musical as well as "The Prayer," a moving duet.

The dinner was a sumptuous feast of sevral vegetables served with steak or chicken, topped off with a variety of desserts, including an indulgent glazed chocolate cake, caramel mousse, and key lime pie. The decorations were exquisite, and the ambiance was elegant, and the atmosphere was filled with laughter as the students dined and shared an evening to remember. A video featuring the eleven seniors with messages from friends and classmates culminated the evening. The students enjoyed wishing the class of 2008 the very best as they prepare for their final month as students at Emmanuel Christian.

If you have any special photos of the evening you would like shared on the ECS website, email them to the school and we will post them here!

Fifth Graders Return Challenged and Changed from DC Trip

Twenty-eight fifth graders departed from ECS campus on Tuesday night, April 22 at midnight, bound for our nation's capital, Washington, DC. They had spent months in preparation, fund raising, and school study projects prior to this eventful week, and no one was disappointed.

The students arrived early Wednesday morning in Washington and were able to see the White House. One student remarked that it was going to be his home one day! The students spent time walking many miles of steps to see the nation's history through information, museums, and monuments. Most students thought they knoew the city pretty well before they arrived but were amazed at all the things they did NOT know about the DC area. They rode the subway from place to place, visiting the Smithsonian Museum complex near the Mall. The Museum of Natural History caused some raised eyebrows when animals were reported to be "millions of years old", when our view of the world is far younger.

The students journeyed to Arlington National Cemetery, where they stood in solemn silence as a wreath was laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Several students were overcome as they saw the many graves which stood as silent witnesses of the price paid for the freedoms we enjoy today. They later went on to the Capitol Building and were met by Senator Jim Demint and his staff. They toured the Senate and House chambers and were able to ride the underground tram used to transport members of Congress to and from both houses of the Legislative Branch of our country.

The various memorials were all highlights unto themselves, with the Lincoln Memorial, World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam Wall standing out for the students. The Wahington Monument provided a spectacular view of the city, the Mall area, and the White House.

The final day was spent at historic Moutn Vernon, the home of our nation's first President, George Washngton. The weather all week was fabulous, and on this day the students enjoyed seeing a glimpse of colonial life firsthand. Upon returning the students came away with a deeper appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy and the people who were responsible for bringing our nation into being.

Threes Travel to Ripley's Aquarium - 4.30.08

The three year old students traveled to Myrtle Beach this week to visit Ripley's Aquarium. They were able to touch crabs, rays, and other fish. They saw how the sharks were fed and had many other interactive experiences during their special day.

The children enjoyed their time with the fish so much that many of them were tempted to join them in the pool!

The children loved handling the rays and shells with their parents and Miss Jenny and Mrs. Spease.

The people at the aquarium were quite taken by our young explorers and the knowledge they had of marine life. We only wish that they knoew how to spell 'Emmanuel'!
